Cuckoo, a tar nest Clockwork The Hague artist Bas de Boer traveled in the spring of 2010 as part of the residency program of ‘Heden There' to Latvia. In the Latvian capital Riga he made an exhibition at the Latvian partner of Heden; KIM? De Boer came back from Riga with a giant cuckoo clock which will be exhibited at the Denneweg 14a from December 17 till January 29, 2011. The clock is (as a clock) excessive. And although it is a huge clock you cannot speak of an idyllic scene in the classical sense. We look at a clock which precisely shows the darker side of time. It falters, spits and coughs. What happened to this clock? The ‘artist in residence' program ‘There' started this spring in Riga (Latvia). In collaboration with Kim?, a subdivision of the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art, Bas de Boer immersed in the Latvian culture. At the end of his stay, he had a solo exhibition in Spikeri, the cultural center of Riga. Along with the exhibition a small booklet was published featuring a text by Irene de Craen. NOTE: The opening takes place on a different day and time than regularly. Friday, December 17, from 17.00 to 20.00 hours. The same evening, though slightly later, there are two other openings we would like to point out too. TAG at the Stille Veerkade 19 presents Diffraction with Mika Vainio, David Lette Lier, Jon Egeskov and Lab at 19.00. At 20.30 there'll be a performance by Jon Egeskov called The drive. 1646 at the Boekhorststraat has an opening of the exhibition Terra Nova by Frank Koolen at 19.00.
